Young Meteors with Mosaic’s George Cole

The Insurer TV journeyed to Bermuda to meet our second young meteor, George Cole, who at the tender age of 29 is already head of strategic partnerships for cyber at Mosaic.

We met Cole at the well-known industry watering hole in Hamilton, Harry’s Bar, where he gave us a whistle-stop tour of his career, which began at Lloyd’s on a graduate scheme before taking on a placement at fast-paced cyber MGA Occam Underwriting.

It was here that Cole – who had no formal computer training – embarked on a master’s in information security while juggling his day job, elevating his skillset and ultimately helping pave the way for where he is now.

After three years, Cole felt worn out by the MGA life and wanted to switch things up by working at a bigger platform. Enter Mosaic…

Before he knew it, he was off to Bermuda to lead the cyber team, tempted by the access to reinsurers and the quality of island life.

As Cole put it: “I wasn't getting on the Northern Line at 06:30 in the morning.”

At the beginning, Cole’s stint in Bermuda was only supposed to be for three months, but it was soon extended. It was at this point that he faced his biggest challenge yet – telling his (now) fiancée the move was more permanent than he first made out!

Cole learnt quickly in Bermuda. With the unrivalled access to brokers, other markets and reinsurers, he harnessed great relationships and learnt important lessons while operating in one of the fastest-growing areas of the market – cyber.

And there’s more exciting things to come. Cole will shortly be leaving Bermuda for New York to further expand Mosaic’s cyber book – this time accompanied by his wife.
