Insurance Orchestral Society celebrates its centenary
The London Phoenix Orchestra, the only financial services-focused orchestra in the city, has announced a list of concerts to celebrate the Insurance Orchestral Society turning 100 next year.
With a lifespan that has survived wars, pandemics and various government ministers for culture, media and sport, the Insurance Orchestral Society has continued to thrive and grow its roster of supporters and players.
The centenary concert series opens on 25 October 2023 at St John’s Smith Square, and features two new pieces written this year to coincide with the anniversary – Honegger’s Pacific 231 and Respighi’s Pines of Rome
Further concerts are taking place in December and throughout 2024, and will be announced in The Insurer.
Lloyd’s market veteran Reg Brown serves as president of the orchestra.
“When asked to assume the presidency of this orchestra, one I have patronised for some years, even I was surprised to learn of its long and glorious history and its association with the insurance industry since 1924,” he said.
“Registered as a charity, the Insurance Orchestral Society has succeeded in providing a cultural outlet for amateur musicians working hard in the city; and the London Phoenix Orchestra, is still the only orchestra within the financial services community.”
